Open Source Platform for Environmental Research (OSPER)

My involvement: proposal initiation and writing, programme coordination, construction of SLF data system with GSN, data management.
A platform for sharing and storing data from environmental research, OSPER provided the tools to be able to share this data, by promoting extensive metadata sharing and annotating the data with this metadata.
With OSPER, we took the data management and sharing tools built up under SwissEx, and integrated them into a distributed data storage platform with a central interface for querying data. This platform used the static metadata describing the sensor deployments as the data behind a centralized query interface. APIs in both directions allowed data to be queried from the central interface, or both data and metadata to be queried via third party tools.
The technologies and ideas from OSPER now form the basis of the WSL Envidat platform.
