Sensor Deployments
It's not all office work! One part of my job that's important to me is the ability to get out and be involved in the applications themselves. You can't build good software without knowing the issues that the user is facing.
Over the past few years, I have been involved in numerous deployments: digging snow profiles, inserting GPS antennae under 2m snowpacks, deploying soil moisture probes, measuring tree diameter variations using dendrometers, manual stem water availability measurements and many more. I have managed a large fieldsite and assisted many groups in their measurements.
In my acoustics days, I was deployed on many platforms for calibration and prototyping purposes and gained a large amount of experience in underwater deployments.
